From Reporting to Implementing: My Journey Into the Water Sector

A journey from witnessing firsthand the realities often hidden behind statistics, realities that would then change the direction of my life. Communities struggling to adapt to climate change, women and girls walking for miles in search of water, families losing their livelihood to floods and drought was the order of the day. Reporting alone was not enough! immediate action was needed.

The sun beat down on our village, a relentless reminder of the changing climate. Our once lush fields were parched and the river, our lifeblood, dwindled to a trickle. I as a young girl armed with a conservation degree, felt the weight of this reality acutely. My peers, equally passionate and educated, faced similar despair. We were the “the lost generation” of conservationist brimming with knowledge but devoid of opportunities. The green jobs we dreamed of were scarce, eco-entrepreneurship skills were foreign concept, and training programs were nonexistence, then I find the two important seeds.

By fourteen, witnessing plastic waste on a beach ignited her passion for climate action. Now the founder of Climate Conservancy, Leena leads an international youth movement advocating for climate education. With 9,000 young people in 60+ countries, her mission is to create systematic change, ensuring a healthier planet for all.

Change with Climate Change

Governed by laws of nature and the laws of man, the earth and all its splendor is dependent on each species for its survival. As one of the species here, we human beings have a role to play and are responsible for life of other creatures, albeit our responsibility is tied to power wielded. Talk can go on and on but action, regenerative action, must be taken to address climate change.

Tree Planting Kunliro Village Project

Community tree planting awareness campaign to support 150 households in Kunliro village to adopt a tree, plant a minimum of three different types of tree in their homes and surrounding areas, and nurture it till maturity because there is no single mature tree in their homes and surrounding areas.

'Bamboo Adoption in Kenya' National Documentary

Moonlight Initiative is a youth lead sustainability and circular economy consultancy based n Kenya. We were funded last year by the International Bamboo and Rattan organization to create a national documentary on Bamboo adoption in Kenya. In the documentary, we cover different aspects of the Bamboo value chain in creating employment for Kenyans while at the same time mitigating the negative effects of climate change.
