The Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an organization that aims to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being, and sustainable development. IPBES strongly believes that the engagement of young people in the work of IPBES is extremely relevant to supporting the uptake of IPBES assessments among young people as well as other individuals and organizations.

The Global Biodiversity Framework: A Youth4Nature Perspective

Youth4Nature (Y4N) is pleased to present the illustrated report on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM GBF). The report and illustrations break down the GBF for our youth community and audience and provide information about the importance of inclusion of youth as well as about the contradictions between Y4N’s Global Youth Statement on nature-based solutions. This report, with an accompanying summary of portions of the KM GBF, includes specific sections related to youth and the nature-climate nexus as well as graphics for social media.

Moving forward with nature-based solutions: A post-COP15 reflection

After the recent gathering of world leaders at the 15th UN-CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity) Conference of Parties (COP); we saw a rising focus on the global crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource use. Nature based Solutions (NbS) can help reduce its effects to a large degree, but only if it is implemented properly and covers the voices of all its stakeholders.

INUKA HAS LAUNCHED!!!

Youth4Nature is proud to announce the launch of a for-youth by-youth restoration project-INUKA. The project, which launches on 20 March 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya, seeks to take advantage of experiential learning to deliver training on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) best practices, youth leadership and storytelling and scale-up solutions across five key landscapes in Kenya (Coastal Mangrove ecosystems, Inland wetlands, Semi-Arid, Highland forests and Agro-forestry ecosystems). INUKA is piloting in Kenya for 15 months following the launch, with scale-up plans to other Afrikan and Global South countries underway.

Youth Reflections on Country Commitments from the UN Biodiversity Summit

On September 30, 2020 countries from around the world convened for the UN Biodiversity Summit. Following on the heels of the #NatureForLife Hub, hosted by the UNDP, UNEP and the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and taking place just weeks after the 5th Global Biodiversity Outlook was released, the theme of the Summit was Urgent Action on Biodiversity for Sustainable Development. This theme was presented as a way for global leaders to present ambitious commitments for biodiversity ahead of the adoption of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which will focus on action - the strategies and financial requirements needed to turn these commitments into realities.
