Passion for Climate/ Biodiversity in Relation to Agriculture to End Hunger Crisis in Africa

by Judy Njenga

I am Judy Njenga from Nairobi, Kenya. A Bachelor of Science in Agriculture graduate, I currently voluntarily participate in various youth in climate related organisations like appointed Climate Action Group ambassador, member Children and youth major group (UNEP MGCY), and part of YOUNGO-UNFCCC communication group.

As listed I come from marginalised developing African country where the youth get no support from local government denying them an involvement opportunities and sharing of thoughts ,the reason this is a huge opportunity for me to speak out and be heard. In Africa hunger crisis due to poverty has been a big challenge, like in my country Kenya people in Turkana county are dying of hunger, and I feel sharing how I believe practising what has a positive impact to the environmental conditions and spreading awareness to the community would have a huge impact on increased agricultural production thus ending this hunger crisis.

I have a passion for nature and it’s relations and The reason I decided share my story as a youth from Africa where despite of the education I have there are no job opportunities here to fit youths ,and in addition there is too much corruption the reason it’s also hard for a young person from a humble background like myself to secure a place.

For the longest time my main goal has been to advocate for implementations to end hunger crisis in my country which is one of main challenges in African countries ,people in Turkana county are dying of hunger, and I feel sharing how I believe practising what has a positive impact to the environmental conditions and spreading awareness to the community would have a huge impact on increased agricultural production thus ending this hunger crisis. the reason I studied Agriculture and am a big advocate for importance of climate conservation in relation to Agriculture for increased production in Agriculture sector which is my main project.

Am an orphan educated by help of family members and well wishers hence I have experienced extreme poverty and hunger crisis back in my country at first hand and this gives me more urge to do something to help the many in the same situation.

My country is in the tropical area meaning the weather is friendly, there are no extreme winters or summers making it conducive for agricultural development, but the less community support ,poverty and spreading awareness been a huge problem.

More mobilisation of the society and especially young people who are global future leaders is really necessary.

Am aimed to do everything of my capacity to really advocate of what should be done like reclamation of land, afforestation and any other positive activities climate change ,simply for the community to have more land to practice agriculture and under friendly environmental conditions which I am confident will end the hunger crisis in many African countries.

I have had no support from close family in achieving what am aimed at but simply my persistence and reaching outsiders who have really helped me so far and I believe the experience am obtaining from my various participation in climate change sector will equip me with enough skills to support the community for a positive impact in the sector.

The future of Africa is we young people and am determined , aggressive to mobilise more youths for exposure and experience, to understand the importance of climate change and it’s positive effects to end poverty and hunger in Africa which has been main challenge for decades here.I am confident we can the continent better and more reliable to its self.
